Rise of Flight worth it?

Post by Flieger »

Hi Pilots!
Could you tell me if Rise of Flight is worth getting?

More importantly, is all the computer upgrading worth the sim?? I have a old laptop at present---I would need a whole new system.

Thanks!

S! all, Flieger, it really comes down to your financial situation and if you like WW1 flying sims. If the financial situation is tight for you, then no game is worth having to upgrade to a new expensive computer just to be able to play that game.

Rise of Flight requires a powerful gaming computer; here are the recommended computer requirements for it:
http://riseofflight.com/en/about/features
Recommended system requirements
Operating System Windows® XP / Vista / Windows® 7
CPU Intel® Core™ Quad 3 GHz or Intel i7 3 GHz
RAM 4 Gb or higher
Free Hard Drive space 10 Gb
Joystick Direct X 9.0/11 compatible joystick
Internet Connection required for Registration, 256 Kb/s - for Multiplayer
Graphics Card 1024 Mb, GeForce GTX 285/Radeon ATI 5850/HD5850
Sound Card DirectX 9.0c/11 compatible

Supported Operating Systems
Windows XP Service Pack 2 or higher
Windows Vista Service Pack 1
Windows 7

The game comes with some stock planes, but for any other planes for the game, you have to purchase them separately.

Perhaps you could talk a friend who has a computer that is capable of running Rise of Flight into downloading the demo version of Rise of Flight which is good for 14 days so you can see for yourself if you would enjoy it enough to justify purchasing a new computer that meets the recommended specs (expensive).
You can download the 14 day demo version of Rise of Flight from here:

You can also check out the Rise of Flight forums:

Hope this helps you!

Edit: if you want a WW1 flight game to play on your old computer, check out Red Baron 3D. You can purchase it for $9.99 from:
http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/red_baron_pack
It's an old game (RB3D was released in 1998) but there are still quite a few people flying it, including most of the US95th pilots.
