Problems downloading RoF

Post by Vampire »

S! to all...

My Sys went all wobbley on me and I had to reformat and do a complete reinstall, of everything . :? ...I am now trying to down load and reinstall RoF. So far it is a no go. The first two options show error messages when I try to install. The third option just sits there and does nothing.

Want is the very simple thing I am over looking?.......V........

S! all, Vamp, I'm trying to download the latest RoF 1028b version now, but it's very slow - a known problem that RoF/777 has failed to address. Anyways, if I get it downloaded (looks like it will take at least 24 hours, maybe more with the slow download rate), I'll burn it to a DVD and mail it to you. I'll post if I am successful in downloading it.

S! all, Vamp, I just finished downloading RoF 1028b and it was a real hassle. I couldn't get it to download via http because it kept timing out and the download would stop and reset. I then installed DownThemAll! for my Firefox web browser and was successful with that (a download manager that lets you continue to download if you are disconnected or the download times out; I needed to re-continue the download several times).

When I had the file downloaded, I couldn't get it to unzip with either the Windows default zip program or with 7zip. I had to install Winrar and was able to unzip it with that (Winrar). After I unzipped the file with Winrar, I created a new zip file of it using 7zip and that new zip file works fine with the Windows zip program, 7zip and Winrar

Anyways, I have it downloaded; send me a private message with the name and address you want me to mail it to you and I'll get it to you ASAP.

S! all, Vamp, I got your private message.

I have burned a copy of the RoF 1028b game to 2 disks (1 DVD and 1 CD-R) because the current downloadable RoF 1028b game is 4.62 GB in size and won't fit on a single DVD (even though a DVD is labeled 4.7 GB, it will only hold up to 4.4 GB of data - kind of like a computer hard drive, the hard drive may be listed as 80 GB, but when you format it to hold data, it only has 74 GB free space). I created a readme.txt file that is on the cd that explains how to install. Basically, copy the folder from the 1st cd onto your computer hard drive, then copy the files from the 2nd cd into the folder on your computer hard drive from the 1st cd, then browse to that folder on your computer hard drive and double click on setup.exe to start the installation.

The CDs went out in the mail this evening, so hopefully you should have them sometime next week (probably latter part of next week).

I also posted about the problem of the RoF game download over at the RoF forums:
http://riseofflight.com/Forum/viewtopic ... 48#p476848

The fanbois over at the RoF forum will probably flame me for daring to say there is a problem with RoF
